Become a Member

SBAS membership is open to any individual who occupies a faculty position in a university department of surgery or its affiliated hospitals, a freestanding surgical residency program, an investigator or teacher in an academic department of surgery or an ACGME-approved surgery program, or an individual in a surgical specialty. Surgical residents are invited to join as Associate Fellows. We also invite institutions to seek membership in SBAS.

Applications for SBAS membership are considered twice per year by the Executive Council: Spring and Fall. Applications received by March 15 will be reviewed by April 25. Applications received by October 19 will be reviewed by November 30.

Annual dues for individual members are: $400, $100 for residents/fellows, and $25 for medical students. Dues must be paid no later than September 1st (July 1st – June 30th). Any member who is three years in arrears will be suspended for nonpayment of dues. Reinstatement for membership can be accomplished with payment of past dues.

Any active member upon reaching the age of 70 years shall become a Senior Member and is exempt from paying dues.

Paying does not guarantee membership. Applications for SBAS membership are considered twice per year by the Executive Council: Spring and Fall. Applications received by October 19 will be reviewed November 30. Applications received by March 15 will be reviewed April 25.

Presidential Level

  • Sponsor Friday local program, Friday night reception and President’s Banquet
  • Host for annual SBAS Meeting, local Faculty co-moderator positions of scientific sessions
  • Host cover recognition on the SBAS Program
  • Unlimited posting on the SBAS website
  • Four complimentary annual dues payments for faculty, fellows, or residents
  • Eight complimentary meeting registrations for faculty, fellows, or residents
  • Eligibility to submit faculty for the Leadership Institute
  • Chair invitation to the SBAS ASA Honorary Fellow Luncheon
  • Host table with ten complimentary tickets to the President’s Banquet and Reception at SBAS’ Annual Meeting
  • Institutional dues credited at the Platinum Level for three years

Platinum Level – $5,000

  • Unlimited job postings
  • 3 complimentary annual dues payments for 3 fellows or residents
  • 3 complimentary meeting registrations for 3 fellows, residents or students
  • Special recognition in SBAS Program
  • Listing in SBAS Program and SBAS website
  • Eligibility to submit faculty for Leadership Institute
  • Chair invitation to SBAS ASA Honorary Fellow Luncheon
  • 6 tickets to President’s Banquet and Reception at SBAS Annual Meeting

Gold – $2,500

  • Unlimited job postings
  • 1 complimentary annual dues payment for 1 resident or fellow
