Academic General Thoracic Surgeon

Location: University of California, Davis

The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Section of General Thoracic Surgery at the University of California, Davis seeks to recruit a full-time, Academic General Thoracic Surgeon. The emphasis of this recruitment is on thoracic oncology, treatment and care. The academic rank will be at the assistant or associate professor level within the Health Science, Clinical X, or In-Residence series.

The Section of General Thoracic Surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center is a nationally recognized program that offers the top level of care for patients with thoracic disease. We provide expansive services for the surgical treatment of non-cardiac, benign and malignant diseases of the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, chest wall, airway, mediastinum and diaphragm. The Section is a member of the NCI Designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery educates trainees as part of two training residencies for ABTS eligibility: 1) Independent 2-year Pathway and 2) Integrated 6-year Pathway.

The candidate will be expected to participate in clinical care, teaching, university service, and develop investigative and creative work.

Basic Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Degree; and be eligible or certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. The candidate should have a strong interest and expertise in oncological surgical management of patients with thoracic disease; including lung and esophageal cancer. The candidate should have experience with minimally invasive thoracic surgery (VATS) and/or Robotics. The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially and promote a diverse and inclusive environment. The candidate’s research interests should be in oncology; which may include clinical trials, translational medicine, or health services research.

Preferred Qualifications:
An interest in mesothelioma is preferred, but not required.

Additional Qualifications:
Candidates must be able to obtain a California Medical License before the start date.

Salary will be based upon experience and qualifications. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the rank of assistant or associate, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
