Associate/Full Professor of Surgery – Chief, Division of Surgical Oncology

The Department of Surgery, University of California, San Francisco, is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Chief, Division of Surgical Oncology. Candidates must be board certified in General Surgery. Fellowship training in surgical oncology and/or a related specialty including breast, colorectal, endocrine, hepatobiliary, and melanoma/sarcoma surgery is strongly encouraged. Successful candidates should have an established reputation in the field of surgical oncology or a related specialty, including breast, colorectal, endocrine, hepatobiliary, and melanoma/sarcoma surgery.
Qualified candidates will be recognized academic clinician-scientists, with clinical expertise and proven leadership and interpersonal skills. They should express a strong interest in advancing the major missions of the department: clinical, service delivery, education, research, and citizenship; a history of external peer-reviewed research funding is strongly preferred.
The Division Chief will oversee the sections of breast, hepatobiliary, endocrine, and colorectal surgery, as well as melanoma/sarcoma. The Division of Surgical Oncology will be a newly created Division, separate from General Surgery, and will require additional recruitment of faculty based on market growth projections. Currently, there are 23 faculty members in these sections. The Division Chief will be given substantial authority over the divisional activities and broad latitude to manage divisional resources. This position may be paired for candidates with appropriate background and experience with a leadership role in the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center to serve in the strategic management of the surgical resources within the Cancer Center in partnership with the President of the Cancer Center.
Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of Surgery Residents and Medical Students, and will be expected to be active participants in the department’s residency training and educational programs.
