Plastic Surgery Hand Position
Location: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The Departments of Surgery and Orthopaedics at The University of North Carolina are seeking applications for a full- time academic plastic surgeon with specialization in hand and nerve surgery to join our Upper Extremity Service. The Division of Plastic Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 6 faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality care for plastic surgery patients, including oncologic reconstruction, trauma (including facial and hand trauma), microvascular reconstruction, burn reconstruction, hand surgery, nerve surgery, aesthetic and craniofacial procedures. The Department of Orthopaedics includes 20 faculty members who provide the full array of clinical orthopaedic services. This position will be a primary appointment in the Department of Surgery with the possibility of a joint or secondary appointment in the Department of Orthopedics.
The clinical focus for this position will be hand, micro, and nerve surgery. Hand fellowshiptrained applicants are encouraged to apply. The clinical position includes taking hand call for the practice and will also include hand trauma, elective hand surgery, general reconstructive surgery, microvascular and flap reconstruction of the upper extremities, and burn reconstruction.
Faculty members must possess a desire to commit to the missions of the Departments and School of Medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC. Selected candidate must be teamoriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division and Departments. Outreach to our many rural referring hospitals is highly encouraged.

Educational Requirements: Only candidates who have finished or will be completing an ACGME-accredited residency in plastic surgery and fellowship in Hand Surgery may apply, and these candidates must be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or in the process of seeking certification.
Qualifications and Experience: The ideal applicant will have an interest in and proficiency in general plastic surgery procedures and have a special interest in hand, micro, and nerve surgery. Applicants with research experience in clinical outcomes, quality and safety, health services, education, ethics, informatics, or basic science/translational research are strongly encouraged to apply.
