We Cannot Make Progress Until We Understand Our History!
The Society of Black Academic Surgeons remains firm in our commitment to continuing the conversation on advancing a more just and equitable profession in service to society.
We must know our history to advocate for Black lives. Understanding how the history of being Black in America is deeply connected to the continuous fight for social justice today will enable us to advocate for equity and structural change more effectively.
To our colleagues, members, and followers, SBAS is pleased to invite you, your family, and friends to join us on Dec. 1 @ 5:00 pm EST for a FREE, live-streamed virtual event featuring Isabel Wilkerson – author of Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents and the Warmth of Other Suns.
We amplify Ohio State for having the courage, insight, and fortitude to dig deeper into the conversation on justice and for leaning in to encourage understanding and a path forward for under-represented groups in our country. To learn more about the event and to register, please visit:

SBAS will continue to endorse and provide educational resources and events to facilitate the learning process and to empower our members and allies. Knowledge is power.
Isabel Wilkerson is the first African American woman to win a Pulitzer Prize in journalism. She is described as “an interpreter of the human condition, and an impassioned voice for demonstrating how history can help us understand ourselves, our country, and our current era of upheaval.”
