Our Mission
To foster the careers of underrepresented minority surgeons through professional development to become leaders in American Surgery.
The Society of Black Academic Surgeons Foundation (SBASF) was founded with the goal of fostering the careers of junior and mid-career minority faculty so that they can attain the rank of Professor of Surgery and leadership positions within health systems across the United States. The SBASF will supplement the mission of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons by stimulating academic excellence, encouraging scholarship, and supporting professional development of underrepresented minority surgeons so that they will achieve these goals. This effort will consist primarily of providing opportunities to facilitate academic promotion of junior and mid-career faculty surgeons, sponsoring education scholarships to prepare faculty to be leaders in the healthcare industry as well as guiding faculty towards leadership positions in surgery. The Foundation will also provide funding for research for surgeons in training in order to ensure they start early in attaining the academic excellence which is a prerequisite for leadership in academic surgery.
